7. When do I feel like I am following my joy?

I feel most joyous when I am in a beautiful environment, full of nature, plants and sunlight..and it doesn’t have to the be in the great outdoors. For me, following my ultimate joy means taking care of my space or niche — cleaning my room and wiping away the dust on my table tops and bookshelves, decluttering my closet, making sure my room smells great. Or lighting up an incense stick and cracking open the windows first thing in the morning to get the energy flowing. The mix of morning air and the gentle aroma of my handmade incense in my quiet little niche transports me to a state of serenity. I am ready to start the day and face anything. There is something so empowering about creating a peaceful niche for yourself because it’s (in my opinion) one of the deepest and truest form of self-love.

The energy we embody is reflected in our surroundings.

As an empath, my niche is where I can retreat to recharge my energy after a long day or (as I like to jokingly say) escape from the energies acting up in the rest of the house. If you think about it, creating a space that is uplifting, clean and spacious, full of light and smells good, naturally the energy and vibrations in that room would be good and if Qi is good in a space, your mental and emotional state is positively influenced. Whereas if you neglect your niche, overfill it with useless things, leave empty bags of chips or drink bottles everywhere and never air out the room, it cultivates a space for lower vibrations and energy to gather and linger. It also affects your mental state of mind - you might feel unmotivated, unfocused, scattered, depressed, etc.

As I have said before, we are all divine beings and therefore we need to treat our niche as sacred.

Of course there are circumstances when we can’t control the state of a space, especially if you share a room with siblings, live in a dorm or a house with multiple family members. However you can still do little things to keep your side of the room or space sacred and positive. Perhaps just create a moment for yourself, such as lighting a candle or incense after cooking dinner for your family or after a long day at work and enjoying the smell. Or afterwards when all the kids are put to bed and you have a moment to yourself, light some incense and enjoy the silence. All these little actions might seem insignificant but I believe joy is all about romanticizing these moments.
